JeromeCast Episode 105 Iran and Cuba deals

Is the Iran nuclear deal a good thing? What about the thawing of the diplomatic relationship with Cuba?

Some would argue no; some would argue yes.

What do you think?

What do we think? Probably a good thing.

JeromeCast Episode 104 Experiences vs possessions

What’s more important in your life: possessions or experiences?  Would your answer change if you knew that something dramatic (for instance, the death of a loved one) were about to happen in your life?  And would it change how you choose to spend your time on a daily basis, or what your goals are?

I had one of these occurrences in the last couple of weeks. It made me question a few things, but not all things. I do try to live a less material, more family-oriented existence. But I know I fall short on maintaining connections to friends. And read this article about someone who changed his priorities, and his life, dramatically.

JeromeCast Episode 103 Interesting Industries

I’m just back from 2 trips, one to Mexico, another to a tech conference. Some observations:

  • The most disadvantaged get charged the highest fees in banking and money transfer.
  • Very few companies are targeting real change.
  • But there are some…

To that point, I saw some companies launching in interesting industries. What is an “interesting industry”? Well, in my opinion, it’s one where:

  • A little bit off the beaten path, maybe in technology, maybe in target customers
  • It can cause larger, systemic changes (hopefully for the good)
  • Has the potential to be meaningful

Check out companies that are disrupting money transfers – for the good!

JeromeCast Episode 98 Announcing the reform podcast

There’s a new podcast launching soon on the CastWise network – the reform podcast.

The podcast will focus on crowdsourcing ideas for changing just ONE thing about the world. So you can’t say that what you want to change is “world peace” or “ending poverty”. You have to choose just one thing – one law, one human behavior, one aspect of society – that you would change, in order to make the world a better place.

If you’d like to be interviewed for the Reform Podcast, you can email us at podcast@jeromecast.com

The address and podcast feed will be different, so stay tuned for more info and subscribe to the new feed when it comes out.

JeromeCast Episode 97 Drought, brown-outs, and infrastructure taken for granted

Modern society is built on a set of assumptions – assumptions about the level of security, food availability, infrastructure and services that will be available to you.

What happens when that starts to break down? The current drought in the Western United States is having surprising and potentially worrying knock-on effects. Brown-outs are possible.

JeromeCast Episode 96 Learning from History and Context

History should be a major source of learning for us. But when we study historical events, we should also consider the context. What happened before the history to make that bit of history possible?

History podcasts that I listen to and love:

  1. Hardcore History
  2. The Life of Caesar
  3. The History of World War II

PS: I recognize the poor audio quality of this episode. I experimented with recording on my phone. I won’t do that again. Sorry about that.
